If you’re a fan of the show, you know that Chillville fave Bitter:Sweet’s new album dropped yesterday, and that we’ve been really digging it. It is the band as you know them from the first album, but with even more infectiously catchy pop tendencies.
They have proved themselves awesome yet again with a great Serj Tankian (yes, that Serj, the one from System of a Down) collaboration on the track ‘Drama’, which they just released for free download on their MySpace this morning. If you really need some good chill out music, this song is for you. Tankian adds another layer of haunting vocals to what is already a plaintive track, and the song encapsulates the new album sound perfectly with vamping horns, swooping strings, and Shana Halligan’s delicate voice soaring above everything.
This week has some great shows coming up. Tonight is Augustana at Antone’s; these California rockers have been called ‘America’s Coldplay,’ head to their site and listen to the tracks from their new album (streaming for free!) to decide for yourself.
Your calendar for this week needs to include the French Kicks this Thursday at the Mohawk – these guys are mellow indie rock done good, with just enough post-punk experimentation to keep things interesting. If that isn’t enough motivation, you’ve got Frightened Rabbit and local group Zykos on the bill. Don’t get there late, or you’ll miss out on some great opening acts.
Competing for your Thursday night cover is Tacks, the Boy Disaster at Antone’s. Tacks is wonderful live, and a bargain of great music at the price of $8 at the door, $5 if you RSVP through local site Do512.com.
Check back in the next few days for pics from Pink Martini, Belaire, Shearwater, the Black Angels, and Matt Costa. Also, feel free to show you’re a fan of the show through Facebook, or check out our music recs at Chillville’s Do512 account.
